Huge kolam at Times Square

There are a giant colourful kolam measuring 18 feet welcomes shoppers at Berjaya Times Square’s Ground Floor Main Entrance this deepavali. Kolam is a form of sand painting art designed using rice flour, rice or sago. It is usually drawn at the entrance of Hindu homes welcome the Hindu Goddess of  Fortune Lakshmi.


It is also believed to have the power to ward off evil. This year the peacock has inspired Berjaya Times Square to come up with lovely designs featuring the proud bird. Coconut husks and flour are incorporated creatively into the traditional use of coloured rice (rango­li) for the kolam design while flowers and decora­tive items such as statues, peacock feathers, small tea lights and lotus candle flowers en­hance further its intricate design.

Shoppers are able to read more about the origins of kolam and the celebration of Deep­avali at the stand placed beside the kolam. Furthermore, there are exciting dances performances like Life Carnatic Musical, Bharatham Classical Indian Dance, Indian Folk Dance and Snake Classical Indian Dance have been lined up during the Deepavali weekend.
